BROWN SPIRITS
Brown Spirits are a Melbourne-based trio blending psyched-out Krautrock, free-jazz improvisation, and funk-infused downtempo jams. Known for their fierce DIY ethic, they record and mix their own material, earning recognition with multiple global releases. Their two most recent albums appeared on the UK’s prestigious Soul Jazz Records, making them the first Australian act signed to the label. With strong support from Australian community radio and praise from outlets like Mojo UK, Uncut Magazine, KEXP, and BBC Radio, the band has shared stages with international favorites including Kikagaku Moyo, Earthless, Frankie and the Witchfingers, Minami Deutsch, and Yawning Man.
Following their 2023 release Solitary Transmissions and a series of sold-out 45s, Brown Spirits unveiled Cosmic Seeds, a full-length album recorded and mixed entirely by the band. The record continues their tradition of 1960s– 1970s-inspired psychedelic jams while expanding into funk and jazz territories, driven by moog melodies and democratic musical interplay. Their evolving sound pushes beyond motorik rhythms into broader experimental landscapes.
Recently featured at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Brown Spirits are set to perform at Meredith Music Festival in 2025 and Freak Valley Festival in Germany in 2026, further cementing their reputation as adventurous innovators in modern psychedelic music.
