RIPPLE EFFECT BAND
Ripple Effect Band is an all-woman’s rock band from Maningrida in West Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. Whilst following in the tradition of saltwater rock from the top end, they are forging a new sound as the first women from their community to play instruments and make their own band. The band was formed through a long-term collaboration with Newcastle musician Jodie Kell and has a distinctive performance style where the women swap instruments so each one can step forward and sing in her Indigenous language including Ndjébbana, Burarra, Na-kara and Kune.
In September 2024, the band released its debut album ‘Mayawa’ to resounding success. Rolling Stone rated it in their weekly best Australian music, ‘Made right on Country with community input, it features nine folk and rock tracks, a heartfelt tribute to both past and future generations.’ Having completed a national tour to sold out audiences during which they released a remix of ‘Cyclone’ with Sydney dance producer Paul Mac, the band is ready to share their songs and stories. This is an act not to miss as Ripple Effect Band has an infectious energy which will get audiences dancing and transport them to the top end of Australia.
