Buck N Stuff take not being serious very, very seriously. It’s important work they’re doing, after all: saving country music. By reimagining the classic catalog of Buck Owens, Buck N Stuff say, “Enough out of you, Bakersfield Sound! Here’s some rock guitar acrobatics and crazy drum fills!”
Since 2016, the power trio’s tongue-in-cheek live show has answered the question of what if Tenacious D and Led Zeppelin had a baby that loved to Buck? Now they also solve that riddle with their debut studio album, proving in the process that they’re not just a bunch of East Nashville satirists with a cult following — they’re also a vital component of a “New Nashville.”
And as their album title says, it’s time to Buckle Up.
Buck N Stuff may wear their unconventional status like a badge of honor, but all three principals are legit players: Guitarist Adam “Ditch” Kurtz is a staple of the Americana roots-music scene as a steel guitarist (Joshua Ray Walker, American Aquarium, Chris Shiflett), and the rhythm section of Lemmy “Drummer Guy” Hayes and bassist Cam Carrus have played with artists ranging from Zach Top and Nicki Bluhm to Cindy Wilson and Tim Carroll. Together, they form the wonder that is Buck N Stuff and put a fresh spin on Buck Owens staples.
